You’ve probably aspired to be someone great, someone who would help people and make a difference in the world. You might have wanted to become an astronaut, a doctor, a lawyer, or even the president of your nation. However, as the years have passed, things changed. For some reason or unfortunate event, you’ve lost that enthusiasm, that spark that used to drive you to achieve your goals. Maybe you’re a school dropout, someone who’s currently going through a quarter-life crisis, or simply someone who feels stuck in a life without any progress. I too have felt this way.

There was a time in my life that I felt depressed because no matter how hard I tried, life just kept bringing me down. It was painful for me to see myself continuously fail one thing to another. It felt like I was stuck in an endless loop.

When I was still a student, things didn’t go well for me especially when I was in college. I almost screwed up my life because of failing some subjects and wasn’t able to graduate on time. It was only a year later was I able to graduate and started applying for a job. The worst part, this nightmare was only just beginning.

I got rejected to most of my job interviews due to my grades and school records. Seeing my batchmates already progressing in their career and being pressured by my strict family, I became even more miserable and felt like a complete mess. I was so furious because of what I was going through. I was traumatized and became a neet for some time. But then I realized that I couldn’t stay that way. I tried to gain enough courage to pull myself back up and continued my job hunt until I found the one that fits me. I’m even taking an online freelancing course now to learn new skills while we’re currently on home quarantine because of COVID-19. I did all these in order to change the course of my life.

It may be difficult when you seem to be stuck in a rut, but it’s not the end of the world and you can always do something about it to change your life.

Things You Can Do to Help Improve Your Life

1. Devise a plan to change your life

First and foremost, you need to have a self-improvement plan. What do you plan to do? What are your goals and strategies in order to achieve them? Like my coach in a course I took used to say “If you don’t plan, you plan to fail in your life.” It is important to set your goals to keep track of your movements so you can focus on one thing and set your priorities. It is the very first step to becoming a better you.

2. Try a new career

Professional Gamer or Streamer

Most people who couldn’t move on from their status are unhealthily addicted to gaming. They even take it too far by investing a lot of money on the game. Being a gamer at such a young age especially in high school is usually frowned upon. Nowadays, some gamers become professional gamers but that requires a lot of skill; if you can entertain though, you can be a streamer that earns a lot of money. Again, let me remind you not to make this as an excuse for your addiction to gaming.

I was and still is addicted to gaming ever since I was a child. I was always scolded and was not doing good in school either. But gaming actually did do something good in my case. I played online games with international servers like World of Tanks, Aura Kingdom, & Phantasy Star Online 2, it enhanced my English. The school didn’t really help me with English mainly because I always find it uninteresting. It helped me get a signing contract with a BPO company for a Php30,000 monthly salary. Even now they are asking me if I was still interested.

Blogger

In this case, you have to be patient and understand how blogs work. It will not bloom full of money overnight, however, as you progress it can help you earn a six-figure income.

Virtual Assistant or Transcriber

Nothing beats working from home. You can manage your own time, work from the comfort of your couch, and be able to spend time with your family. You’d earn below minimum wage at first. But, a month later you could be an above-average earner, based on how well you will perform.

Entrepreneur

Being an entrepreneur doesn’t necessarily mean starting a big company from the get-go. You can always start small and work your way up, whether it’s a home-based business or a small store. However, this may be a little harder especially if you don’t have the budget to hire manpower. You need to do everything yourself and learn the ins and outs of every aspect of your business.

Although things could be overwhelming at the beginning, it can be a worthwhile experience. Not only will you learn new skills, if your business is progressive you can be insanely rich. To be successful, you need to put in the effort and work hard for your dreams.

3. Create a vision board to make life changes

A vision board or a dream board, can either be a collage of images or words to help you visualize what you want and your goals in life. It can serve as a source of inspiration and motivation to accomplish these goals. It’s a way of training your mind to take action in order to get your desired results. Even athletes such as Katie Ledecky, Michael Phelps, and other successful celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey use the power of visualization.

4. Write your own story

You are the author of your own life, don’t let others dictate it for you nor change your life for them. No one knows you better than you. You know what you want, you know what you need, and you know what you’re good at. So take a step towards something that suits you and not someone else’s.

It’s not easy to change your life, but wanting and actually doing something, even how small it may seem, is the first step to improving yourself. I hope these tips I shared with you can help you achieve your goals. But, you need to be 100% dedicated and disciplined to succeed. You have the power to control the course of your life, all you have to do is to take action.

    • I totally agree. For me, the person who’s really stopping you to change the course of your life is you. You just need to gain enough courage in order to pull yourself back up and decide to finally do something.
